The Carlisle Bison could not overcome turnovers and special teams issues in a 42-28 loss to Lake Village on Friday night at Fred C. Hardke Field. 

Carlisle gave up an interception return for a touchdown, and the Beavers also returned a kickoff and a punt for touchdowns.

“We have to do a better job on special teams and protecting the ball,” Carlisle coach BJ Harrison said. “I am proud of how hard our guys fought. Lake Village jumped out and ahead early and our guys responded.”

Lake Village led 14-0 less than four minutes into the game. 

Carlisle got on the board when Baylor Hauk scored on a one-yard run with 5:47 left in the first quarter. Jimmy Cham kicked the first of four extra points. Hauk’s touchdown was set up by a 44-yard pass from Hauk to Mason Boyle down to the Lake Village 1. 

The Bison then tied it at 14-14 on a 60-yard pass from Hauk to Josh Elliott with 7:10 left in the first half. The Beavers then returned the ensuing kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown to take a 20-14 lead.

Carlisle took its only lead of the game on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Hauk to Michael Spingola with 5:24 left in the half. 

Lake Village scored twice more in the second quarter to lead 36-21 at halftime. 

Carlisle cut the deficit to 36-28 in the third quarter on a one-yard run by Hauk. Lake Village scored the final points of the game on a 65-yard punt return later in the third quarter. 

Hauk completed 10 of 18 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. However, he threw three interceptions. 

Remington Gisclair led the Bison with 87 yards rushing on 18 carries. 

Boyle caught three passes for 68 yards. Elliott caught three passes for 67 yards. Spingola caught three passes for 39 yards. 

The Bison host Clarendon on Friday night. 

The Lions beat Episcopal Collegiate School 38-14 on Friday night, ending a 19-game losing streak. The Lions had not won a game since beating Marianna 16-12 on Nov. 2, 2023.
