With the November elections approaching, events are scheduled in Des Arc and Carlisle to give voters a chance to hear from candidates.

A debate will be held in Des Arc featuring candidates for mayor and two City Council positions, scheduled for Monday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. at Des Arc First United Methodist Church. It will be moderated by Grand Prairie Herald Managing Editor Michael Hibblen.

Incumbent Mayor Roger Scott is being challenged by Anna Beth Fisher. In the Ward 3, Position 1 Des Arc City Council race, incumbent Doug Estes faces James Rowton, while Stephen Fields and Paul Guess are running for the Ward 3, Position 2 seat.

All six candidates are expected to appear together and answer questions during the debate.

The city of Carlisle will host a Meet the Candidates event Oct. 13 from 5-7 p.m. at the City Center. Mayor Jon Plafcan, who is not seeking reelection, said a group is organizing the event and expects to confirm additional details, including which candidates will participate, in the coming week.

“The objective is to have all candidates at this event who the citizens of Carlisle will be able to vote for,” Plafcan said in a text message.

According to the Lonoke County Clerk’s Office, Curtis Gray and Joey Rossell are running for mayor.

In Carlisle City Council races, Mary Eddleman is the only candidate for Ward 1, Position 1. Shanquita Berryman and Bill Ricks are running for Ward 1, Position 2.

Randy Shoemake is the only candidate for Ward 2, Position 1.

Teresa Anne Anderson and Mercedes Rogers are running for Ward 3, Position 1, while Andrew Silverman and Caleb Swears are candidates for Ward 3, Position 2.

J. Michael Stuart is running for Carlisle city attorney, while Madison Swears is running for city clerk and treasurer.
