Des Arc voters elected a new mayor and two City Council members Tuesday, with former council member Anna Beth Fisher defeating incumbent Mayor Roger Scott in a rematch of their 2022 race.

With all three precincts reporting, Fisher received 314 votes, or 58.9%, compared with 219 votes, or 41.1%, for Scott.

Fisher previously served 12 years on the Des Arc City Council. During an October candidate forum sponsored by the Des Arc Chamber of Commerce, she emphasized the need for greater transparency in city government, particularly regarding finances, and improved communication with residents.

Scott, who did not participate in the forum, had sought another term leading the city.

Voters also elected Paul Guess and James Rowton to the City Council.

In the Ward 3, Position 1 race, Guess defeated Stephen Fields with 308 votes, or 57.9%, compared with 224 votes, or 42.1%, for Fields.

Guess, a former president of the Des Arc Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the importance of long-term planning during the October forum. He called for the city to develop a clearer vision for its future and take steps to encourage growth.

Fields, meanwhile, emphasized cooperation among city officials and the importance of attracting new residents.

In the Ward 3, Position 2 race, Rowton defeated Charles D. Estes with 289 votes, or 54.9%, compared with 237 votes, or 45.1%, for Estes.

Estes, an incumbent council member, had raised concerns during the campaign about communication between the mayor and council and the need for city officials to work together more effectively.

Rowton did not attend the October candidate forum.

The election results mean Fisher and Guess, who are siblings, will serve together in city government when their terms begin in January.

City finances, transparency, infrastructure and long-term planning were among the major issues discussed during the campaign.
